A Method to Strength!

Lets look at your strength. What areas of your personal program do you want to improve on in terms of your strength? For instance, do you want to increase one repetition maximum bench-press, the same with your squat, or perhaps you want to improve the number of push-ups that you can do. All of these are examples of strength and strength endurance!

If you want to improve any one particular thing it all has to do with manipulating the reps and the load. For example, lets say that you want to improve your one repetition maximum in the back-squat. For the sake of argument lets say that you can only do 150 pounds on the squat for a single rep. To get stronger you will want to get used to handling a slightly lighter load for about 3 to 5 reps.

So instead of going for broke with trying to lift the 150 lbs. then you simply lighten the load to around 125 or 130 lbs. to execute for 3 to 5 reps. Keep practicing with this weight until you can eventually do more reps. As you progress to being able to do 8 to 10 reps then increase the weight! Now go back to executing this new heavier load for 3 to 5 reps until you once again work up to 8 to 10 reps. You get where I'm going with this, right? By using this method to strength you will see your core strength, fitness, and overall power improve from manipulating the load!

Take the time to practice in order to get stronger. Remember that it isn't always about the weight as much as it is about proper technique. The simple movements and a sound technique can get you big strength gains!

Developing Upper Body Strength in the Paraplegic Athlete!

Racing Chair #2 by banegool

If you are a paraplegic looking to develop upper-body strength and power then listen up. Its time for you to kick your training into high gear. If you are looking to develop upper body strength and power then you have to train just like any other athlete, only harder! The fact is that irregardless of your personal capability, if you have the full use of your arms, chest, and upper body you can gain supreme power.

If you have read my other material then you know that the very essence of strength comes from the practice of muscular tension. Tension equals force and force is strength! To do this you have to work on two very distinct type of movements. The first type involves more strength endurance related movements. This is where you execute a single task over and over for total volume. A good example of this may be something like traditional chest presses, shoulder presses, and medicine ball throws.

The second type of movement is what is referred to as slow tension or grinding. This is where you don't concern yourself with repetitions, but rather the exertion and tension of the movement. An example of this would be something like pressing a dumbell or kettlebell overhead and simply holding it for time. Once again tension equals force. If you have a competent training program you will force your body to innervate more neuromuscular activity, therefore creating a superior level of strength.

This is the key to any successful strength and fitness program. If you don't believe in building strength then you aren't training! Train hard my friend and give it a try.

The Kettlebell - The Pulse of Your Competitive Endurance Program!

ATHLETE Director Dave's Pics - 2009 Nautica NYC Triathlon by ATHLETE Director DaveATHLETE Director Dave's Pics - 2009 Nautica NYC Triathlon by ATHLETE Director Dave

The kettlebell is the REAL pulse of cardiovascular fitness. If you are looking to significantly boost your level of performance and hit your warm-up when everyone else is breaking a serious sweat then this is your formula for success. I have had years of experience training athletes and the kettlebell is the greatest tool for obtaining both optimal strength and the conditioning of a race horse.

More and more endurance athletes are realizing that a successful strength and conditioning program is the answer to their success. Kettlebells are no doubt, the most effective device in delivering both a hard-hitting strength workout along with all the benefits of developing serious cardio endurance. Working out with kettlebells will give you a whole new experience when it comes to your cardiovascular training.

I have had serious successful athletes that are in better shape than most other serious athletes tell me after a kettlebell workout that nothing gets their pulse going more than the iron bell. Swinging the bell or performing overhead snatches with the bell will give you the conditioning workout of your life if you have never tried it. Once you start you will always include this as the PRIMARY element of your training regimen.

So what are you waiting for? If you want to dominate everyone else you compete against on the bike, running on the road, or even swimming in the water then you need this. Every successful athlete knows the value of an effective strength and conditioning program. There is no better way for one to gain an edge in every element of fitness when it comes down to training to WIN!

Best Aquatic Kettlebell Workout!

If you want to step up the intensity of your kettlebell workout routine then you have to attempt some of your kettlebell lifts in the pool.  Aquatic exercises are challenging enough with your own body weight, but with the kettlebell you experience a whole new world of physical exertion. I assure you that your muscles will respond very rapidly to this particular workout along with your cardiovascular system.

You see the thing about training in the water is that your body is buoyant, but the iron bell is not. Your body experiences the sensation of being lighter, but the ancient kettlebell is just as heavy as always! This combination sure puts a twist on your kettlebell workout routine. The key is to find some water (like in a pool) with the water at about belly button depth. From here the key is to perform lifts as usual against the resistance of water. Swings, snatches, and jerks are a great combination of lifts for a great aqua fitness workout!  I promise if you give this one a try that your muscles will respond as fast as ever to the intensity of the aquatic kettlebell workout! Remember that anyone can train hard, but only the best train smart. Give it a try.
