Volleyball and Plyometrics, a Necessary Combination!

Plyometrics are a form of training that is used in order to create forceful muscular power by initiating movements that stimulate and keep your nervous system sharp. Movements such as jumping and bounding off of the ground to increase performance are what plyometrics are good for. This is why plyometrics should be the meat and potatoes of every volleyball player's game!

I think that you can agree that playing volleyball is hard enough without having the leg power and core strength to endure long tournaments and hard fought games! Not being powerful enough to attack the net to drive home the winning point should be the last thing you need to worry about when you are playing a game. Volleyball players have to work on athletic performance just like any other athlete. The quicker and more powerful the player the better he or she will be at playing the game. If you are a volleyball player looking to improve your game then you should incorporate various plyometric drills such as squat jumps and hurdle bounding drills into your practice and training time. This will certainly do the trick in helping you to develop that athletic edge you need to stay on top of your game!

When incorporating plyometric drills into your training program you develop an array of attributes that will improve your game. You will certainly build on improving your athleticism, but you will also drastically reduce the risk of injury and speed up your recovery between those physically challenging games and tournaments. Give it a try and train hard my friends!

The Kettlebell and Plyometrics - A Combination For a Rock Hard Body!

plyometrics by doesp90xworkAwet-Plyometrics by lhaverim33

Kettlebells are one of the most intense forms of training that I have ever done. The other intense form of training that can almost be as challenging is plyometrics. Together when both of these elements are combined the result of your body transformation is mind-blowing!

To begin, I am going to talk about a cool workout that is structured to combine both elements of kettlebell training and plyometric training. This workout can be performed in your back yard, at a local park, or at your local recreational fields. Just make sure that the surface that you are going to work on is flat and spacious! To begin, you will need to use a relatively heavy bell (I would recommend one you could swing for at least 30 repetitions). Start by performing at least 30 double-arm swings with the kettlebell.

Once you are finished then simply put the bell down and then execute 20 body-weight squat jumps. Make sure your squat jumps are done with perfect form and in rapid succession. This combination totals 50 body-blasting reps! As you start this program try to execute 6 rounds (300 reps) of this intense regimen. Work to get better by changing your kettlebell drill or plyometric drill for variations in intensity.

You will quickly see just how effective this little program can be once you have done it on a regular basis. After about 4 to 6 weeks of this you will see a drastic change in your body. Just make sure that you stay consistent and maintain a high level of intensity in order to optimize your overall fitness!

Plyometrics - Jumping Your Way Into Getting in Shape!

How many times have you been to the park or maybe watched your kids playing in the yard or at the playground? If you observe carefully they do a lot of running and jumping around. They are also getting a heck of a lot of exercise.

That jumping around and stop and go method of just being physically active is a great way to get into shape. The jumping and short burst running are also mild forms of what we recognize in the fitness industry as plyometrics. Plyometrics are specific exercises that involve quick burst of intense movements that stimulate the nervous system causing muscles to be conditioned in order to develop for more explosive and forceful contractions. This type of training is particularly used to work with helping athletes to develop more athletic and explosive movements. There are many variations of plyometrics and a beginner should always start with the most basic and lower intense plyometric-type drills. A great start is to master handling your own weight in order to jump. From here specific drills can be manipulated to progress into harder drills. For instance, you may just start by doing squat jumps and progress to jumping off of one leg and landing on 2 feet. From here you might just work on jumping and landing on just one foot! The end result is that you will end up getting a great workout.

Remember that milder forms of this can be performed by kids in a playground. You always want to make sure that you are intelligent and informed about how you structure your plyometric drills. Learn and practice flawlessly.
