Motion and Resistance - The Real Key to Fat-Loss!

I think we can agree that you probably understand the concept of resistance training and the concept of putting your body in motion. The concept I want to address though is the way in which you can combine both of these things to get a real effective workout. Is your fitness and strength program dynamic and creative enough to get you big-time results?

I constantly have people stop me after I workout to ask me what I am training for. I always reply by asking them the same question. I always say that I just want to be as fit, healthy, and strong as I can possibly be. I also point out that I only have a limited amount of time to devote to working out and they are always shocked when I tell them that I only train 3 days a week, maybe 4 at the most for only about 45 minutes each session. The truth is that there is an effective way to do this and an ineffective way to do it.

Your training program should be dynamic and consist of a lot of movement-based lifts. For instance, instead of doing a machine chest press engage in a set of push-up rows (aka man-makers) with a set of dumbbells. By doing this you have to stabilize your body in order to perform a set of push-ups off of a set of dumbbells and incorporate a lat-row with every repetition. There is much more movement and stabilization involved in this exercise than you would ever get from doing a single chest press movement off of a machine. Kettlebells are also great. Instead of engaging in leg presses attempt a set of 30 kettlebell swings with a moderately heavy bell. Once again you are in motion while loading and a tensioning your body at the same time.

If you want to lose the fat and succeed in becoming as fit, healthy, and strong as possible then you must combine both elements of motion and resistance! Train hard.

Find Something to Motivate You Towards Your Fitness and Strength Goals!

I have been training people from all walks of life for about 9 years now. There is one and only one consistent characteristic that holds firm with all of my most successful clients. The one constant variable that I am referring to is motivation! If you aren't intrinsically motivated then you will NOT succeed in anything. That's right, I said it!

In order for you to succeed in your personal fitness and strength program you have to find something that can keep you motivated. Even for those clients that I know that have been very successful and are intrinsically motivated they still have to find something to work towards to keep that inner fire burning. This is a great thing to do if you are starting back into a structured exercise program. Your strength and conditioning program should be catered for you to work towards a specific goal. Whether your goals include weight-loss, improving athletic performance, or just plane health improvement you need to specify what you want to improve on to give you a reason for your fitness campaign.

By now you may know that I am a huge proponent of kettlebells. I enjoy working with the ancient device because of many reasons. The main reason I started training with kettlebells was because I wanted to learn more about the uniqueness of it. It involves such a different dynamic than I ever experienced in training. Even with my years of experience training athletes and my own athletic background it excited me to learn about this ancient art form of fine-tuning the body! This was enough to keep me motivated.

Now my goals are even more specific. Like improving the total number of overhead snatches with a 24kg bell. This is a specific enough goal for me to stay motivated. Other things you may want to consider would be entering some form of competition or competitive event. These are all great options for you to stay the course throughout your personal strength and fitness adventure!

Hardening Your Body - 2 Drills That Will Tighten Up Your Body!

If you want to learn a great couple of drills to help you to tighten up your body quicker than anything then you are in the right place. Your fitness and strength program success is all determined by how efficient you are in terms of your training. The following 2 drills are great for helping you to harden up your body by packing on lean muscle mass!

1. Kettlebell Snatch: This drill is wonderful in developing a solid core, tremendously stable shoulders, and the cardiovascular conditioning of a horse whenever you implement it. It also is a drill that burns a serious amount of calories due to the intensity of the lift. The lift (single arm overhead snatch) is executed by first understanding the single-arm swing, the single-arm high pull, and then finally the snatch phase of the lift. Understanding each of the 3 phases is important if you are to attempt the lift. The last phase (the snatch) is simply executed by smoothly transitioning the bell over the hand and wrist when locking it out overhead to complete the lift. This final phase is completed by punching your palm to the sky while smoothly allowing the bell to transition over your wrist. You should practice with a lighter bell before moving on to more intense weight. Attempt to execute 30 reps of these (15 each arm) for a set with a moderately heavy weight. You will quickly understand why this drill is ideal for hardening your body.

2. Squat Jumps: For this drill you will only be required the use of your own body-weight. This drill is a great strength and conditioning movement that will surely stimulate your nervous system and give you a serious calorie burn. To begin, simply make sure that your feet are about shoulder width apart. Initiate a counter-movement by squatting before attempting a vertical leap. When you do this allow your hands to swing back when your hips and knees are flexed. As soon as you initiate this counter-movement immediately explode vertically extending your hips, knees, and arms. Execute each jump in rapid succession. Attempt to complete 20 of these in a row and you will quickly understand how this can be a body-hardening drill!

The Best Way For a Beginner to Structure an Exercise Program!

First of all, when you are beginning a program it is obvious that you probably have a set of personal goals in mind. In my opinion the goals of beginners should all be about the same! You want to be as fit and healthy as you can possibly be, right? I think that I am probably pretty close to being right on target. Anyway, we can probably agree that the best way to get to where you want to go is to have a well thought out and well structured plan. However, sometimes the best way to structure a plan for a beginner is to just get active and stay active often.

The way we go about worrying how much time we should put into structuring a nutrition plan, resistance training program, and cardiovascular plan can be over-thought in a lot of cases! Sometimes the best plan of action is to just have a good variety of physical interests. You may want to go cycling one day, hiking one day, and lift weights for a day. A lot of the time it can be just as beneficial to keep a sort of chaotic variation of many different things rather than putting too much effort into figuring out sets, reps, and counting calories in a diet. In time you will learn how to FINE-TUNE your personal fitness and strength program. By keeping your beginner workout program set to a variety of different things you will quickly start to see results in fat and weight-loss!

Just remember to get started doing something and put forth nothing less than an intense and relentless effort! If you are just going to go through the motions and have a going halfway attitude about it then don't expect to grow from it. It is ok to be a beginner, but you don't want to stay one!
