I have included 3 basic steps here for you to follow in order for you to pack on some real powerful muscle that can produce some real powerful results. Just follow these 3 steps and you will be well on your way to being a true strongman or strong woman!
Step 1: Progressive Overload: This is a basic principle in the dictionary of building strength. Progressive overload is where you start out with a weight or resistance that you can handle and over time you gradually increase the load to lift heavier and heavier weight. For instance, if you can lift 200 lbs on the deadlift or squat for 5 reps then practice with this weight and then start adding a slight amount of weight each week (like 5 lbs) to bring the weight to 205 and then eventually 210 and so on. You see what happens here!
Step 2: Maximize Tension: The key to building strength is tension. Strength is the definition of how your body's muscles produce tension. Muscular tension equals force and force equals tension. Maximize tension by engaging in lifting heavier loads more frequently. If we are talking about body-weight exercise and you are great at doing normal push-ups then instead of doing a 100 regular push-ups do 5 one-arm push-ups. Less reps, but more tension! By doing this over time you will develop power. This is why powerlifters are so strong.
Step 3: Multi-Joint Exercise: This is a definite rule for building muscular power. In order to build massive amounts of strength don't waste a lot of time with those single joint lifts like bicep curls. Instead of doing bicep curls do pull-ups. You don't only train the bicep muscles, but you get your lats, traps, shoulders, and biceps involved in the movement. This is also what stimulates your nervous system and spurs your body's natural production of growth hormone and testosterone! Give it a try.
